Spotlight On: Pacific Northwest Corporate Partners

We could not do what we do without the incredibly generous support of our corporate partners in the region. First and foremost, they are instrumental to our ability to outfit our students from head to toe. Providing the technical equipment is one of the biggest hurdles we have to ensuring a safe, dry, warm, and comfortable experience for our students. To be sure it’s mission critical – to say nothing of the physical safety aspect, if a student is cold and wet and uncomfortable, we will have a very hard time executing our curriculum in the field. But our relationships with corporate partners extend beyond just gear. We engage companies from all sectors to advance our mission. Whether through direct sponsorship, promotional support at events, or cause-related marketing, our partners make deeply meaningful contributions to help invest in the future of the young people we engage by making our life-changing wilderness mentoring experiences possible.

Here are a few of the ways corporate partners in the Pacific Northwest have made a difference over the past year:

Eddie Bauer – In 2018, not only did they promote BCM in their stores by selling a custom t-shirt with our name, they told more people about BCM through their “Why I Hike” social media campaign. In addition, they ran a month-long exclusive donate program at their retail locations encouraging their customer to round up or donate a dollar to BCM. These combined efforts generated over $40,000 for BCM youth programs.

Columbia – One of our most consistent supporters in the region, Columbia ran a cause-related marketing campaign in concert with Zappos. The “Buy One Give One” campaign provided a donation of 100 pairs of boots and $10,000 to BCM.

Stanley – Another stalwart partner in Seattle, Stanley has been so generous with their time at the Outdoor Retailer Show. They consistently throw fundraiser parties for us, sponsor BCM directly, and provide their amazing products to our volunteers and SFS climbers to thank them for their service to BCM. Every year they easily provide over $25,000 in cash and in-kind support to us.

Therm-a-Rest – The Ridge Rest is a mainstay on every BCM youth expedition. You can find it rolled up in backpacks going back to the founding of the organization. That tradition and history has made Therm-a-Rest one of our longest standing partners. Today, their consistent support extends beyond product. To be sure, the company provides a direct corporate sponsorship, but they also get involved personally – their staff volunteer on youth expeditions, fundraise for us through the Summit for Someone program, and run for BCM’s Ragnar Rainier Trail Race team.

Industrial Revolution – Two other mainstays on the BCM expedition are the Industrial Revolution spork and meal kits. We have woven these two pieces into our program across the country. In addition to this steady product support, the company supports us with a direct cash sponsorship. Moreover, last year, they put a staffer on our Mt Baker Summit for Someone climb.

Additionally, there are so many other incredible partners in the region that have helped us along the way: Kinco, Mountain Gear, Planet Granite, SOG, Sasquatch, and REI are other great brands that have all played integral roles in BCM’s success in the region. We are grateful for their belief in BCM and their generosity in creating more opportunities for youth in the outdoors.
