Margaret Cartner

Margaret is a Birmingham, Alabama native who has been focused on developing outdoor adventure and leadership education in Birmingham for the last six years. Growing up in Birmingham, she spent her weekends hiking and canoeing in the surrounding beauty Alabama has to offer. After college she spent 3 years in the outdoor industry learning what curriculum was needed to create equitable access to public school students in Alabama. Since moving back to Birmingham in 2020, Margaret has been teaching Spanish in Birmingham City Schools where she launched her Outdoor Adventure Club. Through this program she has been able to provide BCS students with opportunities to hike, canoe, fish and orienteer. She is continuing her work with Big City Mountaineers in the interest of providing outdoor adventure education to students across Birmingham!

In her free time Margo loves to camp, hike, read, and play disc golf and Dungeons and Dragons with her friends. She has two older brothers who are her closest confidants and don’t be surprised if you meet her parents with her around Birmingham. They love the community as much as she does. She is the proud mom of one haughty floof named Blueberry!
